The construction crew of ‘Comandante‘ takes center stage today for #Peoplebehindmovies.
Edoardo De Angelis’ film demanded significant technical skill and talent from our craftsmen, who in Taranto oversaw the management and construction of the submarine.
“Comandante“, by Edoardo De Angelis, tells the story of Salvatore Todaro, head of the submarine Cappellini, and the rescue of a Belgian crew destined to drown at sea. The submarine was reconstructed in its entirety thanks to the talents of the craftmanship of Cinecittà, led by Simona Balducci.
“To cover the deck, we opted for larch, an Italian softwood, a choice motivated by the fact that the Cappellini is from the last century, so there were not the imported woods we use now. After the drawings, a model was built. 3D with all the different sections, the centrings, because in reality the submarine is like a boat. The film’s set designer Carmine Guarino provided us with the images and volumes, then the executive we brought it back to the shipyard in Narni.”
