The Cardinale Retrospective Lands in Francoforte
The retrospective dedicated to Claudia Cardinale and curated by Cinecittà is scheduled from November 24 to December 6 at the DFF- Deutsches Filmmuseum in Frankfurt, within the Italian film festival "Verso Sud.
The retrospective dedicated to Claudia Cardinale and curated by Cinecittà is scheduled from November 24 to December 6 at the DFF- Deutsches Filmmuseum in Frankfurt, within the Italian film festival “Verso Sud.” Claudia Squitieri, Claudia Cardinale’s daughter, is expected to attend the Festival on November 24, introducing Bube’s Girl by Luigi Comencini and Atto di dolore by Pasquale Squitieri, both restored in 4K by Cinecittà. In addition to these, among other films recently restored digitally and screened at the festival are The Leopard by Luchino Visconti, Once Upon a Time in the West by Sergio Leone, and seven precious 35mm prints in excellent condition, all coming from Cinecittà: The Facts of Murder by Pietro Germi, Girl with a Suitcase by Valerio Zurlini, Careless by Mauro Bolognini, Time of Indifference by Francesco Maselli, The Magnificent Cuckold by Antonio Pietrangeli, Mafia by Damiano Damiani, and Bello onesto emigrato Australia sposerebbe compaesana illibata by Luigi Zampa. On this occasion, an art book – Claudia Cardinale – L’indomabile – is also to be presented, edited by Claudia Squitieri and published by Cinecittà and Electa.
The 29th edition of the Italian film festival Verso Sud, organized by the association “Made in Italy” with the support of the Italian Ministry of Culture – Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual, in collaboration with Cinecittà, with the local Consulate General and the Italian Cultural Institute of Cologne, offers a wide selection of recently produced films. Ten films on the bill: Blessed by Paola Randi, Bentu by Salvatore Mereu, La chimera by Alice Rohrwacher, Thank You Guys by Riccardo Milani, L’immensità by Emanuele Crialese, Margins by Nicolò Falsetti, Caravaggio’s Shadow by Michele Placido, The Peacock’s Paradise by Laura Bispuri, Kidnapped by Marco Bellocchio and Ghost Night by Fulvio Risuleo, who will meet the audience after the screening in Frankfurt on Saturday 25 November. The Verso Sud film festival program includes a tribute to Anna Magnani on the 50th anniversary of her death, highlighted by the screening of a restored version of Mamma Roma by Pier Paolo Pasolini with German subtitles.
‘Verso Sud’ is the second retrospective organized this year by Cinecittà in collaboration with DFF, after last July’s in Frankfurt dedicated to Dario Argento in the presence of the director.
