Trembling and defenseless, a young blond girl wanders the immense tunnels of the Termini train station. Cut to the courtyard of an ten-story apartment building, in another part of the city, at the same time. In a ground-floor apartment, an attractive and competent call-girl is practicing her shady trade… On another floor a cheerful and charming transvestite is shaving his face. A middle-aged couple have just finished making love, and now they’re ignoring each other, avoiding each other by watching tv in silence. And, finally, an apartment full of young people, of bright young kids fresh out of college, who get together for dinner at nine o’ clock sharp… Darkness falls on the city and on the world, and on the different worlds that make up our apartment building. The trembling girl at the train station suffers an obtuse and inexplicable act of violence. While the march of night advances, all the other stories continue, nearby, unaware, different.
