The ancient gods still live on Mount Olympus, and every hundred years they come down to Earth to repeat their adventures in the guise of human beings. Nemo, the errant messenger who keeps the gods informed on what’s happening on Earth, tells Jove about a particularly beautiful new goddess: the Statue of Liberty. Fascinated by his story, the king of the gods is convinced that the new goddess is none other than one of his former loves, Asteria, who disappeared into the ocean. He disguises himself as an acrobat and goes down among the mortals. Jealous of Jove’s new love, Juno convinces the people nearest Olympus, the Pugliesi, to kidnap the new goddess. The Statue of Liberty disappears from Liberty Island, leaving the entire world greatly perplexed. Thus begins a merry-go-round of paradoxical situations in which the gods, appearing in wildly different human guises, live out their adventures on Earth through myths and symbols.
