On the outskirts of Rome among quarries and fields of wheat, still predominantly agricultural, but where the city is already pressing in, a producer has rented a run-down shed to make the numerous episodes of a soap opera. Aldo, the director, separated from his wife and daughter, has been evicted and almost as a joke goes to live in the shed. In the sets that hold the dramas, passions and intrigues of the soap opera during the day at night Aldo looks for a setting and a space for himself. The other callers at the shed from the actors, the script writer, the producer, the messenger girl, to the daughter, all seem to multiply, like the images in the mirrors, the double role of exaggerated fiction and exasperating reality, in eternal balance between “vulgarity and suffering”. In silent irony Aldo joins in this gradual entanglement of sensation and feeling. But even stage settings can be dismantled… occasionally…
