The film presents a number of unusual, picaresque, mysterious and at times extraordinary characters that one might meet or invent in any place. They are to be found along the banks of the river Po or in the forest, in old, abandoned farm houses, in the marshes, among the trees of the high-water beds. The characters of the story have traditional, archaic, or invented occupations. There are also writers such as Ligabue, Bruno Rovesti, Leo Toniato, Elena Guastalla, Adele Casoli, Serafino Valla, Vandino Daolio, Giancarlo Gandino and many others who have described this particular area and painters, who conserve the memory of this beautiful but fast-disappearing landscape in their paintings.
