Luca and Giovanni are two friends bound together despite their different origins by the shared experiences in their past. Luca endures his disillusionment and disenchantment working at a radio station. Giovanni works as a television director. The documentary project on which he is working is what draws the two friends back together. For Giovanni, the documentary merely necessitates a request for professional collaboration. But for Luca it will constitute a kind of journey toward his own past in search of the people, places and events that induced in him that sense of disillusionment and disenchantment, but not of resignation. Luca’s initial hesitation is misunderstood by Giovanni. He comes to understand the real significance of Luca’s behaviour only later, when it is perhaps too late. He attempts to dissuade him from going any further. But for Luca, going as far as he can go becomes his only means of affirming himself. His only means of legitimizing a past made up of choices that were often painful, but always experienced and vindicated authentically. The price to be paid for Luca’s journey into the past.
