La verità su La dolce vita
October 20th 1959. Giuseppe Amato, producer of masterpieces of Italian Neorealism such as Blasetti’s “A Walk in the Clouds” or De Sica’s “Umberto D.”, is in a screening room watching the footage of Federico Fellini’s “La Dolce Vita”. He is proud of his latest production, a film that no other producer wanted to finance. The director’s version is four hours long. Fellini doesn’t want to cut out any of it and distributor Angelo Rizzoli thinks it’s a financial disaster. This is the most dramatic challenge Giuseppe Amato ever faced as a producer. It will cost him his career and, ultimately, his life. Based on original and never before published letters, contracts and production documents, this docu-drama is told with the exact words of its protagonists. It portrays the real story of the making of one of the most famous Italian film ever made.
