A film that traces a portrait of one of the most prolific and multifaceted artists of international contemporaneity. Father of an eclectic and multilingual art, ranging from painting to sculpture, from cinema to theater, from graphic work to photography, Paladino practices what Achille Bonito Oliva called cultural nomadism, or the freedom of those artists who move incessantly from one stylistic territory to another. “Nomadism for me means crossing with the utmost technical and inventive freedom the different territories of art, both geographically and temporally” (Mimmo Paladino). With the publication in 1980 of La Transavanguardia Italiana by Bonito Oliva, Paladino was included among those artists who, in response to movements such as Minimal and Conceptual Art, took up the brush and marked a return to traditional artistic modules. His 1977 painting Silent I retire to paint a picture is considered today by critics the symbolic picture of the return to painting. The numerous trips to South America will lead him to take an interest in the local culture permeated by a primitive animism of which his painting will bring the echo. Throughout his career, which will see him engaged in the experimentation of the most disparate techniques, from engraving to collage, from mosaic to encaustic, the constant element will be a fantastic and metaphorical imaginary, rich in allegorical figures, geometric signs, archaic sacredness, masks, skulls, animals … “I have never been a choir of prestigious voices.interested in the work closed in the rectangle of the canvas (…) Trespassing is a dimension that belongs to me” (Mimmo Paladino). The dialogue between painting, sculpture and architecture will be constant and tight, and will lead to the creation of installations and large environments, such as the famous Salt Mountain and Hortus Conclusus. Mimmo Paladino confirms himself as one of the most internationally recognized contemporary artists because his sign speaks a language common to all, because the symbol is “the splinter that preserves the soul of every creation”. The film, in addition to the first-person account of the artist, offers
