Anna is a 23-year-old teacher in crisis with her school, in her job, and with her middle-class father and mother. Luciana is a 22-year-old farm girl from Emilia-Romagna that became a worker in the big city at the age of 18. Alvaro comes from far away and could disappear at any moment. Mario is a farmer turned worker in the big city, like Luciana, but he?s got a good head on his shoulders and could never succumb to depression. And then there?s Marco, close to the window, in plaster from neck to pelvis due to a car accident. He knows he can never be anything other than what the violence of the world has wanted him to become. He was married at a very early age to Luciana, but they separated immediately, before the terrible accident. He turns back to Luciana for comforting words and a sympathetic heart. Marco concludes his story with a farewell note entrusted to Alvaro. He refuses the love of others and almost disappears.
