Samuele is the renowned inventor of a fibre optics system capable of revolutionizing the telecommunications sector. He works side by side with David, a politician who uses the proceeds to finance his electoral campaign. Samuele is going through a difficult period in his life. He has been having strange dreams that, together with other casual occurrences begin to undermine his mental stability. He goes to his sociologist friend Matteo for help. After hearing his dreams, Matteo convinces him to follow his wife Ester to a religious meeting where he is astonished by what he hears from a young boy. Samuele and David call a press conference to present the apparatus invented by Samuele, which will pave the way for David’s political rise to become president of the confederation of Arab states. While a series of miraculous events brings Samuele to complete conversion, that same conversion creates irreconcilable differences with his old friend David. Having reached his political zenith, David even succeeds in having himself hailed by the public as the Messiah, sent down from the heavens to rule the world. In the epilogue, Samuele and the remaining few followers of Christ set out in exile toward the mountain of the olive trees in Jerusalem.
