Lea and Ale Melari are two, recently-orphaned sisters. They live with their uncle Tino and are part of a religiously strict family held in high esteem by the Jewish community. The two sisters have profoundly different personalities. Lea, the older of the two, is an introvert and the victim of her uncle?s strong personality. Ale, on the other hand, is her sister?s exact opposite, self-actualized and satisfied with who she has become. Uncle Tino, unbeknownst to the girls, is planning their future. However, the two sisters lives soon take different directions: Lea gets married reluctantly and Ale leaves the city in search of a world free of prejudice.
