After the Germans raid the Jewish quarter in Rome on October 16, 1943, arresting Giacomino Treves? relatives and acquaintances, the eight-year-old Jewish boy finds himself fortuitously alone. After being entrusted by Don Luigi, through a little trickery, to the care of Amadeo the black-marketer, the “small Jewish wander” sets out on an adventurous voyage to London where his father is an announcer for the BBC?s Italian transmissions of “Radio Londra”, Reaching France with the help of Susa partisans, Giacomino joins up with two English aviators and Dr. Roder, who is later captured by the SS after having lent his surgical services to help those wounded in a train station bombing. The tenacious youth gets into the “stream line”, the conventional name given to the organization for clandestine emigration. He is later picked up by the Allies that land on Normandy. Once in London he finally is reunited with his father.
