In December 2012, after the complaint of a Nigerian citizen against two of her compatriots, Operation Athenaeum, conducted by the SAT, the Anti-Trafficking Squad of the local police of Turin, began.The operation ends in 2016, the budget is 53 identified people, 44 of whom are burdened by the measure of pre-trial detention in prison. The investigations made it possible to identify two organizations, called Maphite and Eye, composed of Nigerian citizens, specialized in the exploitation of prostitution and drug trafficking. Thanks to the work of the SAT it was possible to discover the existence of “a large international organization, with contours comparable to our mafias, which threatens, exploits and kills”. This book traces the stages of a key investigation in the history of the fight against the Nigerian mafia in Italy.
