The living Italy
A purposefully ingenuous and simplistic commentary on the vision of the world is given by an off-screen voice, presumably from a spaceship originating from some other distant, inhabited planet. Another voice, insistently and pedantically reflective and off-screen the entire film, comments on the complexity and unattainable perfection of the world in which we live. It goes on to say how we trample on this world daily with unforgivable distraction and levity. Images of the mineral, vegetable and animal worlds, chosen from Italy?s true and unequaled riches, constitute the variety and magnificence of the “things” found in our beautiful country thanks to nature?s abundance. These images appear on screen for about 80 uninterrupted minutes: too few to illustrate the theme, too many for a documentary with spectacular-didactic aims that is supposed to be the first of 10 lessons for viewers with little desire to contemplate and reflect without enjoying themselves!
