The “small apple” in rom
The Tiber, the river bringing the life in Rome, also helped to create a quarter called “Garbatella” whose name in Italian recalls the idea of a nice and pleasant place. Garbatella is a unique place not only in the Capital but all over Italy and it was the product of the Mayor Ernesto Nathan’ s utopian idea to transform Rome into a modern city at the beginning of the XX Century, following the example of the Big European Cities. That is why he thought of creating in that place a massive industrial development centre and an area with housing for the people who would work there. Today, only archaeological ruins remain, but the GARBATELLA is still quite the same despite the passing of time. It’s a small city in the big city, an oasis of peace where everything seems to stand still but also with a strange mix of architectural stiles, green areas and very friendly people. It’s also a place that famous movie directors such as Pier Paolo Pasolini and Nanni Moretti used in their productions with streets and alleys where actors like Alberto Sordi and Maurizio Arena used to play in during their childhood.
