Studio EL, which takes its name from its founders’ initials, E for Ettore (Scola) and L for Luciano (Ricceri), is located in Cinecittà Studios.  It was established in the Eighties by the partnership formed by the great director Ettore Scola, who depicted the peoples of Italy and the social history of the country with analytical spirit for over 50 years, and Luciano Ricceri, one of the country’s greatest set designers whose long career included work for cinema, television and theatre.

Their long partnership produced cinematic masterpieces from We All Loved Each Other So Much | C’eravamo tanto amati  (1974), Ugly, Dirty and Bad | Brutti, sporchi e cattivi  (1976), A Special Day | Una giornata particolare  (1977), The Family | La famiglia  (1987), The Voyage of Captain Fracassa | Il viaggio di Capitan Fracassa  (1990), Concorrenza sleale (2001), through to How Strange to be Named Federico | Che strano chiamarsi Federico  (2013), dedicated by Scola to his great friend Federico Fellini and shot specifically in Cinecittà’s Teatro 5 because of its special link with the maestro.

The studio, recently acquired by Cinecittà, preserves original material including props, sketches and set models that document the creative process behind the films that contributed to Italian cinema history and demonstrate the artistic talent underlying the set design of the great master Luciano Ricceri.
