Testing special effects: matte painting and chroma key

A visit focused on storytelling in film that demonstrates how a real, or virtual, set begins with a sketch, explains the evolution over time of some special effects techniques and allows participants to experiment with early matte painting, reinventing a setting with colour. In the interactive green screen room, participants star in a short film with three different animated backgrounds thanks to the use of the chroma key technique which places people and objects in virtual settings.
