Oscar-winning costumes
Cinecittà Shows Off has prepared a new selection of costumes and props for December 2022 to take visitors on a journey through the history of cinema from the past to the present day.
From the peplum (sword and sandals genre) and commedia all’italiana (Italian style comedy) to the latest releases on the silver screen and streaming platforms, the exhibition pays tribute to the very best of costume design.
A sequence of unforgettable clothes continues from room to room, including those by the Oscar winning designers: Milena Canonero – for Sophia Coppola’s cult favourite Marie Antoinette (2006); Gabriella Pescucci – with the magnificent red dress worn by Michelle Pfeiffer in Martin Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence (1993); and Anthony Powell who dressed a memorable Walter Matthau in Roman Polanski’s Pirates (1986).
Meanwhile Carlo Poggioli designed the outfits worn by the legendary Jane Fonda in Paolo Sorrentino’s Youth (2015) and Isabelle Huppert in the recently released Caravaggio’s Shadow (2022) by Michele Placido which demonstrate the role of costume in contemporary cinema, alongside Scarlett Johansson’s suit for Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit (2019) designed by Majes C. Rubeo.
This selection of clothing, accessories and props highlights the priceless work of globally renowned film costume and props makers such as Costumi d’arte Peruzzi, Sartoria Tirelli, Sartoria Farani, The One, ll Costume and E. Rancati.
